New Vision for GM Stamping Site Indianapolis, IN

Existing Site Condition & Boundaries Highlighted

This is a project undertaken by two of Master of Urban Design students (Loaei Thabet & Mohammed Alabassi) from Ball State University, Indianapolis Center. This project focuses on the redevelopment of one of the historical industrial sites into a sustainable, compact, innovative, and green neighborhood.

It is the intention of the designers to strive to find that well balance between the mixed elements, uses, building and spaces typologies that will bring this site back to life and turn it into a new destination with a brand new identity. Reflecting on the history of the site, there is a driving force to preserve the spirit of that history inside the new proposal through a site-dependent design. Also, this is one of the few sites where the water of the white river is accessible, and where no levees are blocking the views or rise as a physical barrier. Water is perceived in this project as an asset, amenity, value and above all as an identity for the new residents and visitors.

Over the coming few months, this blog will document the work progress of the design journey starting from the concept, through the various iterations, and all the way to the fruition of the design product. Let’s get started and share together this journey.
