70th St. Central Public Park

The problem of the site was framed as a lack of unity and theme that ties the whole parts of the park together. Also, the circulation system was poorly designed to revoke surprising elements on the visitors as well as the passerbyers. The program was missing any feature of variety, and the whole park being flat was another element that inhibits people to continue on their pursuit of discovery around the park.

There were many flanking land uses and historical/ national monuments, for instance "The Unknown Soldier", but without any relation whatsoever to the park. There are two fun cities on the both edges of the park and still no connection with the park is clear. The connection is considered critical because this park is supposed to be the the central public of many districts in the capital secretariat.

The traffic jam, on a daily basis, is always a concern on all the streets around the park because of the overflowing vehicles of the visitors or taxies and busses transporting children and families especially at the weekends and holidays. No plan is clear on how to increase the parking spaces capacity, or at least how to change people's behavior into a walkability mode.

Therefore, the design looked at all the above-mentioned issues and provided a concept that respects the existing conditions of the site and provides an initiative to become a good neighbor for all the surrounding elements and uses. The proposal considers the traffic jam and how to become the main piazza for the visitors and a connecting station to their final stages around the park. It also provided a variety of programs that ensure a full active and happy day for all ages of visitors.
